Egypt Daily News – In response to the troubling incident at Shabramant Central Hospital, where a patient died in the elevator, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, has taken decisive actions to ensure accountability and improve safety standards within the healthcare system.

The Director of the Health Affairs Directorate in Giza Governorate was relieved of his duties and the Deputy Director was appointed to temporarily oversee operations.

This decision follows a report from the Deputy Minister of Health and Population for Governance and Oversight regarding the unfortunate death of a patient due to issues during elevator transport.

Dr. Abdel Ghaffar emphasized the importance of addressing any negligence by healthcare personnel and has mandated disciplinary actions based on the findings of ongoing investigations by the Public Prosecution.

Furthermore, he has tasked the Ministry’s Governance and Internal Review Department with an urgent review of all maintenance contracts for elevators and critical medical devices across the country.

This assessment will be conducted in collaboration with relevant medical and engineering departments, and a comprehensive report is expected within the week. These steps aim to enhance the safety and reliability of hospital facilities, prioritizing patient care and operational integrity.
