Central Bank: Egypt’s external debt decreases to $152.9 billion by the end of June 2024

Egypt Daily News – The Central Bank of Egypt revealed a decrease in Egypt’s external debt to $152.9 billion by the end of June 2024, compared to $160.607 billion by the end of March 2024, and approximately $168.034 billion by the end of December 2023.

According to a report issued by the central bank today, Monday, long-term external debt has decreased to $126.8 billion compared to $135.257 billion at the end of March 2024, and $138.551 billion at the end of 2023. Short-term debt recorded $26.24 billion compared to $25.350 billion, and $29.482 billion.

It explained that the outstanding external debts owed by the government decreased to $80.178 billion compared to $82.206 billion at the end of March 2024, and $84.849 billion at the end of December 2023.
The amount of debt owed to the central bank also decreased to $34.668 billion compared to $41.119 billion at the end of March, and $45.314 billion at the end of 2023.

The outstanding debt balances owed to banks recorded approximately $20.67 billion by the end of June, compared to $20.120 billion by the end of March and $20.096 billion by the end of 2023.
