Egypt Daily News – Today, Monday, the UN Security Council will vote on a draft resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Sudan, with a focus on protecting civilians and ensuring unconditional access to humanitarian aid.
The draft project, prepared by Britain and Sierra Leone, stipulates that the conflicting parties should cease hostilities and engage in good faith in a dialogue that moves towards national calm as soon as possible.
The project also emphasizes the need for parties to commit to implementing 2023 pledges to protect civilians, with a focus on preventing conflict-related sexual violence. It also stresses ensuring that humanitarian aid reaches quickly, safely and without any obstacles to all parts of Sudan.
Furthermore, the draft resolution calls on member states to avoid any external interference that might inflame the conflict, while urging respect for the embargo on the transfer of arms to the Darfur region.
Earlier, Sudan accused the United Arab Emirates of supplying the Rapid Support Forces with weapons, but Abu Dhabi rejected the weapons.
