Search and rescue efforts end on the third day for those missing in the sunken yacht “Sea Story” off Marsa Alam

Egypt Daily News – Rescue operations ended on the third day of the search on Wednesday evening. The search could not find any of the 7 missing people since last Monday.

Investigations by the Quseir prosecution revealed that the sunken boat had a certificate of validity for one year, and there were no observations or technical defects regarding the boat. The investigations with the surviving crew members to identify the causes and circumstances of the accident are still ongoing.

Among the survivors of the accident were Christophe and Luciana, a young couple from the Belgian city of Namur.

Khattab El Faramawy a professional diver who participated in the rescue operations said that the rescue teams faced several challenges, among which were strong underwater currents and being surrounded by sharks. He added “We were diving to a depth of approximately 12 meters, and the passengers were stuck inside the cabins of the sunken boat,” We succeeded in finding five passengers alive and recovered four bodies.

Major General Amr Hanafy, Governor of the Red Sea, confirmed that coordination had been made with a number of foreign embassies and consulates in Cairo to provide the necessary facilities and obtain official papers for the surviving and deceased passengers in the sinking accident of the Sea Story.

Hanafi praised the efforts undertaken by all concerned parties, led by the Egyptian navy, in finding a number of missing persons alive.
