Egypt Daily News – On Saturday, terrorist organizations entered the Syrian city of Homs, completely paving the way towards storming the capital, Damascus.
Reuters reported, citing Syrian army and opposition sources, that terrorist organizations entered the main city of Homs from the north and east. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported the withdrawal of Syrian army from the vicinity of the city of Homs.
A Syrian army officer told Reuters on Saturday that dozens of fighters from the Radwan Force, affiliated with the Lebanese Hezbollah group, fled the Syrian city of Homs. He explained that the escape came after “a decision was made with the Syrian army that it was no longer possible to defend the city.”
Director of the Syria Program at the Middle East Institute, Charles Lister, said: “If Homs falls, Damascus will be cut off from the coast, effectively separating what remains in the government’s control into two parts.”
The population of Homs is more than 1.4 million people, and the city is located on the M5 highway in Syria, about 40 kilometers south of Hama, which the factions took control of on Thursday, and about 144 kilometers north of Damascus, the final target of the attack for the terrorist organizations.
Last week, terrorist organizations led by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham quickly took control of the city of Aleppo, then moved to take control of Hama. Today they announced “the complete liberation of the city of Homs.”
