Egypt Daily News – Syrian media reported on Monday that the leadership of the armed opposition decided to assign the head of the Salvation Government operating in Idlib, Mohamed al-Bashir, to form a government to manage the transitional phase in the country.
A representative of the Syrian opposition stated that members of the groups that came to power in Syria are discussing the issue of a smooth transfer of power and avoiding chaos in the country.
The opposition representative told the “Novosti” agency: “There is a meeting between the head of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, Ahmed al-Shara (AKA Abu Mohammad al-Julani) , the head of the Syrian government, Mohamed al-Jalali, and the head of the Salvation Government operating in Idlib, Mohamed al-Bashir, to determine the steps to transfer power and prevent chaos in Syria.”
Suggested steps include:
-Dissolve all paramilitary groups and unify them under military operations command.
-Dissolve all opposition associations, the National Coalition, and the Negotiating Committee.
-Working under the auspices of one government.
-Announcing the formation of a transitional authority.
Syrian Prime Minister Muhammad al-Jalali announced through the media on Sunday that an agreement had been reached with the Syrian armed opposition on the importance of preserving the country’s institutions.
Al-Jalali had announced in a video clip at dawn on Sunday that he hoped for a new era to prevail and that he would be in the Council of Ministers in the morning and ready for any handover procedure.
For their part, Syrian opposition factions announced in a brief statement on state television, “the liberation of the city of Damascus and the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad.
Mohamed al-Bashir was born 1983 in the village of Mashoun, situated in the Jabal Zawiya region of Idlib Governorate. He is a Syrian electrical engineer and politician will be serving as the 70th prime minister of the Syrian Transitional Government since 9 December 2024. He has also served as Prime Minister of the Syrian Salvation Government since 13 January 2024.
