Egypt Daily News – The revelation by prominent Egyptian journalist Amr Adib about his astronomical salary on Thursday sparked a massive reaction on social media.
The hashtag #عمرو_أديب (#Amr_Adib) trended on Twitter (X), garnering thousands of tweets, most of which were critical of his performance as a media figure.
During his speech at the World Government Summit in the UAE, Adib disclosed that he earns $2.5 million per year.
He clarified that he did not reveal this figure to boast but rather to highlight that working as a journalist in the Arab world is “not easy.”
Amr Adib responded to criticism regarding the topics he covers in his talk shows.
He stated, “The average citizen doesn’t care much about NATO or other such issues,” adding that people are more concerned with “the price of eggs, meat, and rice.”
Adib argued that discussing these everyday concerns is what truly causes problems in Egypt, rather than topics like political parties or the LGBTQ+ community. He emphasized, “This is what politics means for us in Egypt.”
Amr Adib, who holds both Saudi and Egyptian citizenship, currently hosts “Al-Hekaya” on MBC Masr.
