Egypt has reaffirmed its support for the implementation of the Trump administration’s Middle East peace plan, signaling that Cairo intends to play a central role in stabilizing the region and addressing the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said his government remains “fully committed to making the Trump peace plan successful and implementing it on the ground,” describing the initiative as a framework that Cairo believes can help restore regional stability if carried out in full.

According to Abdelatty, Egypt has already completed the plan’s initial phase, which he characterized as a foundational step toward broader political and security arrangements. He stressed that attention is now shifting to the second phase, though he offered few specifics about its details or timeline.

A key priority for Egypt, he said, is ensuring the effective operation of the Rafah crossing, Gaza’s primary gateway to the outside world not controlled by Israel. Abdelatty underscored that keeping the crossing open and functional is “very important” both for the movement of goods and for addressing the dire humanitarian needs inside the enclave.

He emphasized that increasing the flow of humanitarian and medical aid into Gaza is essential as the region continues to face shortages of basic supplies, strained medical infrastructure, and a civilian population struggling under protracted conflict conditions. Cairo, he noted, views itself as a crucial logistical and political mediator capable of easing suffering on the ground while working with international partners to advance a broader peace framework.

Egypt has long played a diplomatic role in Israeli-Palestinian affairs, often acting as a mediator between the parties. Abdelatty’s remarks reflect Cairo’s attempt to maintain that position, pressing for humanitarian access, stability along its border, and a political process that aligns with its regional interests.
