Global smartphone brand HONOR is deepening its investment in Egypt, signaling a broader shift toward localizing high-tech manufacturing in the region. In high-level talks with Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the company outlined plans to significantly expand its smartphone production footprint, positioning Egypt not just as a market, but as a strategic base for regional exports.

At the center of this expansion is a manufacturing facility in 10th of Ramadan City, developed in partnership with Etisal Trading. The plant is designed to serve both domestic demand and fast-growing markets across Africa and the Middle East, with a strong emphasis on producing competitively priced devices under the “Made in Egypt” label. Once fully operational, the facility is expected to manufacture millions of units annually, marking a notable step forward in Egypt’s ambitions to scale up electronics production.

What sets this project apart is its focus on advanced manufacturing. HONOR plans to introduce modern production technologies, including surface-mount technology (SMT) lines, alongside knowledge transfer initiatives aimed at building local expertise. This approach goes beyond assembly, targeting deeper industrial capabilities that can support long-term growth in Egypt’s tech sector.

The expansion aligns closely with the government’s push to create a fully integrated electronics ecosystem. Through initiatives like Information Technology Industry Development Agency and broader policy frameworks, Egypt is actively encouraging global tech firms to invest in local production, innovation, and workforce development. Incentives and regulatory support are helping to make the country an increasingly attractive destination for technology manufacturing.

Equally significant is the employment impact. The project is expected to generate around 1,000 skilled jobs, contributing to a growing talent base in electronics and advanced manufacturing. This not only supports economic growth but also strengthens Egypt’s position as a competitive player in a sector traditionally dominated by Asian manufacturing hubs.

For HONOR, the move reflects confidence in Egypt’s industrial capabilities and geographic advantage. By establishing a production base outside China, the company is diversifying its supply chain while gaining closer access to emerging markets. For Egypt, it represents more than a single investment—it is part of a larger transformation toward becoming a regional center for technology production.

As the facility moves toward full operation later this year, the partnership highlights a clear trajectory: Egypt is no longer just importing technology—it is increasingly becoming a place where it is made.
