Iran Qatar call

Egypt Daily News – Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, received a phone call on Tuesday from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, their first conversation following the Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s missile attack on the Al-Udeid Air Base, which is operated by the United States in Qatar, on Monday evening.

According to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), the Emir began the call by reiterating “Qatar’s strong condemnation of the attack on Al-Udeid Air Base by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, viewing it as a blatant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and airspace, as well as a breach of international law and the United Nations Charter.”

Sheikh Tamim added that “this violation stands in complete contradiction to the principles of good neighborliness and the close relations between the two countries, especially considering that Qatar has consistently advocated for dialogue with Iran and has made extensive diplomatic efforts in this regard,” according to QNA.

The Emir emphasized “the urgent need for an immediate halt to military operations and a serious return to the negotiating table and dialogue, in an effort to overcome this crisis and preserve the security of the region and the safety of its people.”

According to the Qatari agency, the Iranian president expressed his regret to the Emir and to the Qatari people over the damage caused by the attack, stressing that Qatar and its people were not the intended targets of the operation. He stated that the attack does not pose a threat to Qatar and reaffirmed that Qatar remains a Muslim and brotherly neighbor.

He expressed his hope that the relations between the two countries will continue to be based on mutual respect for sovereignty and good neighborly relations.
