The Presidency
Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer.
Spokesman for the Presidency Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy stated that the British Prime Minister began the call by congratulating the President on the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), describing it as a great cultural edifice that demonstrates Egypt’s history and culture.
President El-Sisi and the British Prime Minister reviewed the state of bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction with the current progress in bilateral cooperation in various political, economic, trade, and investment fields. They emphasized the necessity to further advance all aspects of bilateral relations in a way that serves the common interest of the two countries and their peoples. Both sides expressed their keenness on strengthening collaboration in the fields of development, trade, and investment.
President El-Sisi and the British Prime Minister also discussed the latest developments in regional and international issues, including the evolving situation in the Gaza Strip.
The British Prime Minister praised Egypt’s efforts which contributed to reaching the agreement to end the war in the Gaza Strip and the convening of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit. The President and UK’s prime minister underscored the significance of building upon the momentum associated with the UN Security Council resolution adopted yesterday regarding the Gaza Strip, in order to solidify the ceasefire and de-escalation in the Strip, ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, and swiftly begin the reconstruction process.
In the same context, the British Prime Minister reiterated the need to deliver sufficient quantities of humanitarian aid to the people of the Strip, and to take all necessary measures in this regard, including encouraging more international humanitarian relief organizations to work toward achieving this goal.
The call also touched on developments in Sudan. The two sides stressed the vital need to exert intensive efforts to stop the war and achieve stability in Sudan and agreed to foster coordination in order to achieve calm and stability in the region.
