Egypt has achieved a significant advancement in digital government development, ranking 22nd worldwide in the GovTech Maturity Index, according to a senior government official.

Speaking on Monday, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat said the ranking reflects Egypt’s rapid progress in modernizing government services through digital transformation, institutional reform, and the adoption of advanced technologies.

The GovTech Maturity Index, issued by the World Bank, assesses countries’ ability to use digital technologies to deliver government services efficiently, transparently, and inclusively. Egypt’s position places it among the leading countries globally and marks a notable leap compared to previous assessments, the minister said.

Talaat attributed the improvement to a comprehensive national strategy aimed at building a fully integrated digital government ecosystem. This strategy includes expanding electronic public services, developing unified digital platforms, enhancing data governance, and strengthening cybersecurity frameworks.

He noted that Egypt has made significant strides in digitizing core government services, particularly in areas related to civil documentation, taxation, customs, investment services, and social protection programs. The expansion of digital payment systems and the automation of government procedures have also contributed to improved efficiency and reduced service delivery times.

The minister emphasized that the government has placed strong focus on capacity building and institutional readiness, including training civil servants, upgrading digital infrastructure, and ensuring interoperability between government entities. These efforts, he said, have been essential in improving service quality and boosting citizen trust.

Talaat added that Egypt’s progress in GovTech supports broader economic and development goals, including attracting investment, improving the business environment, and promoting transparency. He stressed that digital transformation is a key pillar of Egypt’s Vision 2030 strategy for sustainable development.

The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continuing reforms, expanding digital inclusion, and leveraging emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and data analytics to further enhance public services.

Egypt’s ranking underscores growing international recognition of its digital governance reforms, positioning the country as a regional leader in GovTech and digital public service delivery.
