Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides.

Spokesman for the Presidency Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy said the call focused on current regional developments. President El-Sisi emphasized the vital need to contain the current escalation in the region, reaffirming Egypt’s steadfast position in advocating for the resolution of crises through peaceful means. The President underscored the necessity of sparing the peoples of the region further tension and instability, in order to safeguard their resources and secure their future.

President El-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s unequivocal support for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of states, expressing Egypt’s full and unshakable solidarity with its fellow Arab nations and its categorical rejection of any acts of aggression against them. The President warned against the negative economic repercussions of continued escalation at both the regional and international levels, highlighting the intensive communications Egypt is conducting with the various parties to contain tensions and prevent further escalation.

The Cypriot President commended Egypt’s efforts aimed at containing the escalation, affirming his country’s keenness on continuing close consultations with Egypt and on exchanging views on regional developments and ways to reduce tensions.

In this context, the two Presidents stressed the crucial importance of adhering to the agreement to end the war in the Gaza Strip and of implementing its second phase, which includes the unfettered delivery of humanitarian assistance, as well as expediting the launch of early recovery and reconstruction efforts.

The call also tackled ways to further strengthen the outstanding bilateral relations between Egypt and Cyprus, as well as Egypt’s relations with the European Union, as Cyprus is currently holding the rotating presidency of the EU Council. Discussions extended to aspects of bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy, trade, and investment, with the aim of serving the interests of the two friendly nations and reinforcing their existing partnership.
