Egypt’s government has officially announced the start of daylight saving time, with clocks set to move forward by 60 minutes at midnight on Thursday. The change marks the beginning of the summer time system under Law No. 24 of 2023, which regulates seasonal time adjustments across the country.

According to a statement from the Cabinet’s media center, daylight saving time in Egypt begins on the last Friday of April each year and continues until the end of the last Thursday of October. Under this system, the official time is advanced by one hour during the summer period before returning to standard time at the end of October.

The government said the measure is part of a broader effort to make better use of longer daylight hours during the summer months. By shifting the clock forward, officials aim to improve energy efficiency and align daily schedules more closely with natural daylight, a practice widely used in many countries.

Authorities confirmed that the transition will take effect precisely at midnight, meaning citizens should adjust their clocks forward by one hour as Thursday turns into Friday. Digital devices are expected to update automatically, but officials advised users to check manual clocks to avoid confusion.

The reintroduction of daylight saving time comes after years of suspension and reflects a renewed push by the government to optimize energy consumption and streamline time management during peak summer months.
