Donald Trump has sharply escalated tensions with Iran after rejecting Tehran’s latest response to a U.S.-backed proposal aimed at ending the ongoing conflict, calling it “TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE” in a late Sunday post that signals renewed diplomatic breakdown and continued military pressure.
Ceasefire Fraying as Negotiations Stall Again
The latest confrontation comes after months of unstable de-escalation efforts, including a brief ceasefire declared following large-scale joint U.S.-Israeli strikes earlier this year on Iranian military, government, and infrastructure targets. The ceasefire, initially framed as a pathway to diplomacy, has repeatedly been tested by failed negotiations and mutual distrust.
Initial talks between U.S. and Iranian representatives in April, reportedly held through intermediaries in Pakistan, collapsed without agreement, deepening uncertainty over whether any durable settlement is achievable.
“TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE” – Trump Rejects Tehran’s Reply
In his latest statement on Truth Social, Trump said he had reviewed Iran’s response to a U.S.-drafted proposal and dismissed it outright.
“I have just read the response from Iran’s so-called ‘Representatives.’ I don’t like it, TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!” Trump wrote, adding a brief sign-off: “Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
Iranian state media had earlier reported that Tehran formally submitted its response via Pakistani mediators, signaling continued indirect communication despite the collapse of earlier negotiations.
U.S. Signals Ongoing Military Posture and Surveillance
Trump also used a televised interview on “Full Measure” to underscore that the conflict remains active in strategic terms, even if paused in full-scale combat operations. He confirmed that U.S. forces are tracking Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile and warned that any attempt to approach it would be met with immediate force.
“We have that very well surveilled. If anybody got near the place, we will know about it, and we’ll blow him up,” he said.
While Trump stopped short of declaring an official end to hostilities, he insisted Iran had been significantly weakened. He claimed U.S. forces had already struck roughly 70% of intended targets, while suggesting that additional strikes remain an option.
“We could go in for two more weeks and do every single target,” he said, framing the situation as militarily controlled but diplomatically unresolved.
A Conflict Without Closure
Despite periodic ceasefire announcements and diplomatic backchannels, the conflict appears to have settled into a volatile stalemate, defined by intermittent negotiations, continued military signaling, and unresolved nuclear concerns.
With Tehran rejecting the latest U.S. proposal and Washington maintaining both surveillance and strike readiness, the prospect of a comprehensive peace deal remains uncertain, while the risk of renewed escalation continues to shadow the region.
