Egypt Daily News – Engineer Karim Badawy, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, represented Egypt at the opening of the 19th Francophonie Summit held in the French capital, Paris, on October 4-5.

The inaugural session began with a speech by French President Emmanuel Macron, the current president of the Francophonie Summit, and was attended by a large number of heads of state and government from the member countries of the organization.

The minister also participated in the meetings held regarding the “renewal of the multilateral international system.”

The Minister of Petroleum participates in the opening of the Francophonie Summit in Paris. The summit is being held this year under the theme “Creativity, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship,” amidst major geopolitical and economic challenges facing the global arena.

The summit activities witness the handover of the presidency from Tunisia to France, which is currently chairing the summit.

French President Macron and the Secretary-General of the International Organization of La Francophonie, Louise Mushikiwabo, expressed their deep gratitude and appreciation to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for the completion of the new headquarters project for Senghor University to serve development in Africa in the city of Borg El Arab by the Egyptian government.

The university is considered one of the main institutions of the organization, and this is a valuable contribution from Egypt to support sustainable development efforts on the continent.

The International Organization of La Francophonie
It is worth mentioning that Egypt joined the International Organization of La Francophonie in 1970. The organization currently includes 88 countries, among them 54 full member states, seven participating states, and 27 observer states. African countries represent the majority of the organization’s members.

The main tasks of the International Organization of La Francophonie are to promote cooperation among member states to support cultural and linguistic diversity, to promote peace, democracy, and human rights, to support education, training, higher education, and research, and to enhance economic cooperation to support sustainable development.
