Egyptian and Iranian Foreign Ministers, meet in Cairo

Egypt Daily News – Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, held a meeting today with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss escalating regional tensions in Lebanon, the Gaza Strip, and the Red Sea.

The two ministers highlighted the urgent need for de-escalation to avoid a potential regional war.

Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, the spokesperson for Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reported that Minister Abdel-Aty called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and stressed the importance of ensuring humanitarian aid access to alleviate the deteriorating humanitarian situation.

He advocated for a solution to the conflict’s root causes by supporting the establishment of a Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with international resolutions.

The Minister underscored the critical phase the region is experiencing and the importance of preventing a catastrophic confrontation that could affect all countries in the area.

He reiterated Egypt’s stance on preserving Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity while advocating for the implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701 without selectivity.

Additionally, he emphasized the need to empower Lebanese institutions, particularly the military, to maintain security and stability in Lebanon, insisting that decisions regarding the presidential vacancy should reflect Lebanese consensus free from external influence.
