Egypt Daily News – The spokesperson for the Fatah movement in the Gaza Strip, Munther Al-Hayek, called on Hamas to “listen to the voice of the people” by stepping down from the governmental scene in Gaza to enable the Palestinian Authority and the Palestine Liberation Organization to fulfill their responsibilities in the Strip, according to his statement.
Al-Hayek emphasized that the presence of “Hamas has become dangerous for the Palestinian cause and that the movement must reconsider its calculations and listen to all the voices that have risen in Gaza to save the devastated people of the Strip.”
Hundreds of people had protested in Gaza, demanding an end to the war and for Hamas to step down from power, in the largest demonstration against the Palestinian movement controlling the Strip since the war began on October 7, 2023.
Al-Hayek stated that clans and community leaders in Gaza had previously called on Hamas to withdraw from governance, “which the movement did not respond to at the time, and now the people of Gaza have taken to the streets again to demand Hamas step down so that they do not continue sacrificing their children for Hamas’ narrow partisan interests,” as he put it.
On Tuesday, protesters gathered near a displacement camp in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza Strip, and then marched through streets surrounded by piles of rubble from buildings and homes destroyed during the war, near the Indonesian Hospital, chanting slogans such as “Hamas out, out,” according to videos circulated on social media.
