Egypt is moving to strengthen economic and investment ties with Finland following high-level talks between Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Finnish President Alexander Stubb in Cairo, where both sides emphasized expanding cooperation in trade, technology, and education.

The meeting, held at the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones, brought together senior officials and business leaders from both countries as part of a broader push to translate political relations into economic partnerships.

Madbouly said Egypt is seeking a significant increase in trade volume with Finland, highlighting opportunities in sectors such as digital transformation, renewable energy, and education.

He pointed to Egypt’s large youth population and ongoing infrastructure development as key advantages for foreign investors, positioning the country as a regional base for production and services.

Technology and green economy in focus

A major focus of discussions was cooperation in information and communications technology, where Finland is considered a global leader.

Madbouly highlighted Finland’s expertise in advanced telecom systems and digital innovation, noting potential for collaboration with Egypt’s ongoing digital transformation agenda.

He also pointed to opportunities in green energy, including hydrogen projects, desalination, and waste-to-energy solutions, as Egypt continues to expand its clean energy portfolio.

Finland signals investment interest

President Stubb welcomed deeper economic engagement with Egypt, describing the relationship between both countries as one built on innovation and long-term cooperation.

He expressed Finland’s interest in expanding partnerships in education, technology, and sustainable development, while highlighting his country’s experience in high-tech industries and knowledge-based growth models.

Finnish officials also indicated readiness to support cooperation in education reform and skills development programs.

Business forum highlights private sector role

The talks coincided with a joint Egyptian-Finnish business forum attended by government representatives and private-sector companies from both sides.

The forum focused on identifying practical investment opportunities, particularly in technology, manufacturing, and sustainable infrastructure.

Madbouly described the event as a step toward building direct links between companies rather than limiting cooperation to government-level dialogue.

Egypt positions itself as regional hub

Egypt used the discussions to reinforce its position as a gateway to the Middle East and Africa, offering access to large regional markets supported by trade agreements and industrial zones such as the Suez Canal Economic Zone.

The government also pointed to ongoing reforms aimed at improving the investment climate, including streamlined procedures and updated regulatory frameworks.

Outlook

The visit is expected to support new partnerships between Egyptian and Finnish companies, particularly in technology-driven sectors and education.

Both sides signaled that the relationship is moving toward a more practical, investment-focused phase, with an emphasis on implementation rather than dialogue alone.
