The Presidency
Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with the President of the African Development Bank Group, Dr. Sidi Ould Tah. The Group includes both the African Development Bank and the African Development Fund. The meeting was attended by the Acting Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt and Governor of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the African Development Bank Group, Mr. Hassan Abdalla, Executive Director for Egypt and Djibouti at the AfDB, Dr. Khaled Sherif, and Director General, North Africa Regional Development and Business Delivery Office Mohamed El Azizi.
The Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, said the President welcomed Dr. Sidi Ould Tah and stressed Egypt’s full support for his leadership of the African Development Bank Group since taking office in September 2025. The President noted the current economic and geopolitical challenges that affect development efforts in African countries, which reinforces the importance of the pivotal role of the Bank and the Fund in mobilizing financial resources and providing the necessary technical support to African countries.
Dr. Sidi Ould Tah expressed his deep appreciation for Egypt’s support for the Group and stressed his commitment to working closely with the Egyptian government to enhance the long-standing cooperation between Egypt and the Group. He congratulated Egypt on the economic reforms undertaken by the state over the past 10 years and the resilience of the Egyptian economy in the face of global challenges, noting the importance of studying the Egyptian experience and the benefit that African countries can derive from it.
The meeting focused on the strategic partnership between Egypt and the Bank. This includes Egypt’s support in ensuring the financial sustainability of both the Bank and the Fund, as well as ongoing and planned projects within the joint cooperation portfolio.
President El-Sisi commended efforts exerted to prepare the new Country Partnership Framework (CPF) between Egypt and the Bank for the period 2027–2031. The President said he looked forward for this strategy to align with national priorities and plans, particularly Egypt Vision 2030, and to support the State’s efforts in enhancing the role of the private sector as a primary driver in achieving sustainable and comprehensive development.
President El-Sisi further emphasized the vital importance of infrastructure projects for the African continent, as well as agreed-upon transboundary projects that contribute to bolstering regional integration and achieving high standards of sustainability and developmental impact. The President highlighted their positive repercussions on states’ economies, including the facilitation of the movement of goods and passengers.
The President pointed out the extensive expertise of Egyptian companies in the implementation of prominent development projects across Africa. President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s readiness to share its expertise with the Bank, the Fund, and African nations, stressing the vital need to exert all necessary efforts and engage with partners to mobilize the financial resources needed to fund these projects across the continent.
The meeting also discussed developments with regard to Egypt’s hosting of the first edition of Africa Business Forum, scheduled to take place in El Alamein City in June 2026. The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of Egypt’s persistent support for the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) and a commitment to forging closer joint cooperation and coordination between the two sides.
