Egypt Daily News – As international travelers increasingly turn their attention eastward, new data from the Mastercard Economics Institute highlights surprising changes in the global travel landscape for summer 2025. While Asian cities dominate the list of the fastest-growing destinations, Egypt makes a notable entry with two of its coastal cities ranked among the top 15 emerging summer hotspots.
Tokyo tops the list in terms of growth in flight bookings for summer 2025, followed by Osaka, underscoring Japan’s growing appeal. Experts link this surge in demand to the depreciation of the Japanese yen, which has made the country a value-for-money destination, especially for visitors from China, Europe, and the United States.
Eight of the 15 fastest-growing summer destinations are in Asia, including Shanghai, Beijing, Seoul, and Singapore, as well as Nha Trang in Vietnam and Fukuoka in Japan. Paris ranks third, though it has seen a slight decline in demand due to its role as host of the 2024 Summer Olympics, prompting some travelers to avoid large crowds and increased prices.

In an encouraging development for Egyptian tourism, Hurghada and Sharm El-Sheikh secured the 14th and 15th spots, respectively. Their inclusion signals a strong comeback for Egypt’s beach tourism sector, supported by upgraded infrastructure, a broader range of marine activities, and competitive pricing when compared with Mediterranean alternatives.
Tourism analysts suggest that the popularity of Hurghada and Sharm El-Sheikh points to a broader trend in traveler behavior, with growing interest in authentic experiences, clear beaches, and quality services at reasonable costs. Egypt’s geographical proximity to Europe and its accessibility further enhance its attractiveness as a summer vacation choice.
