Egypt Daily News – The cargo ship Eternity C, sailing under the Liberian flag and operated by a Greek company, has sunk after being targeted in a Houthi attack off the coast of Yemen, four maritime security sources confirmed on Wednesday. Rescue efforts to recover the crew are currently underway.
Two of the sources confirmed that at least six crew members have been rescued so far.
This incident follows confirmation from British maritime security firm Ambrey on Tuesday that another Liberian-flagged vessel, the MV Tutor (also referred to as Magic Seas in some reports), had sunk after a separate Houthi attack in the Red Sea. The attack reportedly involved gunfire, rocket-propelled grenades, and explosive-laden unmanned boats.
Yemen’s Minister of Environment warned in on Tuesday of serious environmental risks stemming from the sinking of the Magic Seas, noting that the ship had been carrying around 35,000 tons of highly hazardous ammonium nitrate.
The incidents mark a continued escalation in maritime threats in the Red Sea, a critical global trade route increasingly targeted amid regional tensions linked to the ongoing conflict in Yemen.
