Egypt Daily News – In response to recent service disruptions, Egypt’s National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has mandated all telecom providers to offer immediate compensation to affected users of both mobile and fixed internet services.

According to an official statement issued by the NTRA, the directive requires companies to provide 1 GB of free data to mobile service users and either 10 GB of free data for fixed internet users or 5 GB of free data on mobile lines if fixed services remain unstable.

Compensation Linked to Ramses Exchange Fire

The decision follows a widespread technical outage that impacted various telecommunications services due to a fire at the Ramses Central Exchange in Cairo. The regulator stated the move aims to mitigate the impact on users and ensure their rights are preserved.

“This action reflects the authority’s commitment to protecting consumer rights and maintaining service quality,” the statement said. “Compensation must be granted without the need for users to file complaints.”

Long-Term Commitment to Service Reliability

The NTRA emphasized that it is closely monitoring the incident and working to prevent similar disruptions in the future. It reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring the quality, continuity, and reliability of telecom services across Egypt.

The incident and the regulator’s swift response highlight growing consumer expectations for accountability in the telecom sector, particularly as digital connectivity becomes increasingly critical for daily life and economic activity.
