Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

The Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, said the call reviewed developments in the strategic and distinguished bilateral relations between Egypt and Greece. Both sides affirmed their interest in further strengthening and advancing bilateral cooperation mechanisms, particularly in the fields of economy, trade, investment, energy, electrical interconnection, in addition to combating illegal immigration.

The call also touched on the current regional situation. The Greek prime minister listened to the President’s views on ways to de-escalate the situation in the region and resolve the current conflicts. The call reviewed Egypt’s tireless efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, release hostages and captives, and secure the urgent delivery of humanitarian aid.

President El-Sisi stressed the need to begin the reconstruction process in the Gaza Strip immediately after the ceasefire, reaffirming Egypt’s firm position rejecting the displacement of Palestinians from their land. The President also emphasized that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions, is the only way to establish lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.

The call also covered developments in Libya. Both sides emphasized the need to maintain peace and stability in Libya and continue advancing the political process, leading to the formation of a unified government responsible for organizing simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections.

Additionally, the call also touched on the issue of demarcating maritime borders in the Eastern Mediterranean. Both sides stressed the importance of continuing joint coordination and cooperation to achieve development and prosperity for the region’s peoples.

President El-Sisi also affirmed Egypt’s unwavering commitment to protecting religious sanctities on its land, including Saint Catherine’s Monastery, given its profound religious and historical value.
