In response to the worsening humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, Egypt has carried out a large-scale airdrop of essential supplies, following directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to provide comprehensive support to the Palestinian people.
On Wednesday morning, four Egyptian military transport aircraft took off carrying tons of food and humanitarian aid. The operation was aimed at reaching areas inside Gaza that are currently inaccessible by land due to ongoing hostilities and infrastructure damage. The airdrop is part of Egypt’s broader emergency relief campaign and ongoing efforts to ease the suffering of civilians trapped in dire conditions.
The initiative reflects Egypt’s continued leadership in regional humanitarian diplomacy and its strategic role as a key mediator in the conflict. President Sisi, who also serves as Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, instructed the military and relevant authorities to intensify support for Palestinians enduring critical shortages of food, water, and medical supplies.
“The operation targets isolated and heavily affected areas where land access is currently impossible, and aims to alleviate the acute shortages of basic necessities,” a military statement read. The air deliveries are being coordinated with ongoing land-based aid efforts through the Rafah border crossing, Egypt’s main logistical lifeline into Gaza.
Egypt has played a central role in regional humanitarian coordination since the start of the conflict, working closely with international partners, including friendly and allied nations. Officials estimate that Egypt has contributed nearly 80% of all aid delivered to Gaza since the outbreak of the crisis, underscoring its logistical and diplomatic commitment to stabilizing the region.
The latest air mission comes as international organizations, including several UN agencies warn of an imminent famine in Gaza, where over half a million people are reported to be living in conditions similar to famine, and where child malnutrition rates have surged alarmingly.
Egyptian officials continue to call for an immediate ceasefire and full, sustained humanitarian access to Gaza. Cairo remains actively involved in negotiations alongside the United States and Qatar to secure a truce and facilitate a durable political resolution.
