Egypt has successfully drilled two new oil and gas production wells in the Western Desert, reinforcing its ongoing push to boost domestic energy output and strengthen energy security.

The Dorra-36 and West Yasmine-3 wells, completed by Agiba Petroleum Company, have shown strong early performance, with a combined expected output of approximately 1,650 barrels of crude oil per day and around 19 million cubic feet of natural gas daily. Officials said work is underway to quickly connect the wells to existing infrastructure, allowing production to commence without delay.

The development is part of a broader strategy to expand Egypt’s upstream energy sector. In December 2025, the country signed agreements with foreign partners to drill 26 exploration wells in the first quarter of 2026. Natural gas production has also been on an upward trajectory, reaching roughly 4.2 billion cubic feet per day, reflecting a steady increase in domestic energy capacity.

Egyptian authorities say these efforts are critical for meeting rising domestic demand, reducing reliance on imports, and ensuring the country’s energy stability amid a volatile regional energy landscape. By accelerating exploration and production, Cairo aims to secure a sustainable energy supply while supporting economic growth and investment in the sector.

Analysts note that the success of the Dorra-36 and West Yasmine-3 wells underscores Egypt’s ability to leverage both local expertise and international partnerships to expand its energy output, signaling a continued commitment to energy independence and regional competitiveness.
