President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on Wednesday reviewed the latest developments in Egypt’s energy sector and plans to secure electricity supplies ahead of the summer peak.

The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mahmoud Essmat, and Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi.

According to presidential spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, the discussions focused on developments in renewable energy and petroleum resources, as well as operational scenarios across the electricity and petroleum sectors to ensure adequate fuel supply and the continued stability of power generation.

Officials stressed the importance of ongoing coordination among state entities to secure reliable electricity supply nationwide. The meeting confirmed that new renewable energy capacities totaling around 2,500 megawatts are scheduled to be connected to the national grid before the coming summer.

The president also reviewed efforts to strengthen preparedness for securing the natural gas supplies required for the power sector, with the aim of ensuring flexibility in responding to potential developments, particularly amid current regional tensions and their economic repercussions on global energy prices.

The meeting underscored the importance of maintaining regular gas flows to the national electricity grid to guarantee sustainable power supply across the country, alongside continued work to reduce losses and improve the overall efficiency of Egypt’s energy system.
