President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has strongly condemned Iran’s targeting of Arab countries in the region during a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, stressing Cairo’s firm rejection of attacks on neighboring states amid the escalating regional conflict.

According to the Egyptian presidency, President El-Sisi told Pezeshkian that Egypt “categorically rejects and condemns” Iran’s targeting of Arab Gulf countries as well as Jordan and Iraq.

The Egyptian president emphasized that these countries had neither supported nor participated in the war against Iran. Instead, he said, they had worked to reduce tensions and supported diplomatic negotiations between Tehran and the United States aimed at reaching a peaceful settlement to the crisis.

President El-Sisi urged an immediate halt to the attacks and reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to the principle of good neighbourliness among regional states.

He also expressed Cairo’s deep concern about the growing military escalation and warned of its potential impact on regional stability and the welfare of millions of people across the Middle East.

During the call, President El-Sisi outlined Egypt’s diplomatic efforts to contain the conflict and return the parties involved to negotiations. He stressed the need for flexibility and dialogue to avoid further deterioration of the security situation.

The Egyptian leader reiterated that Cairo believes the current crisis can only be resolved through political and diplomatic means rather than continued military confrontation.

For his part, Pezeshkian expressed appreciation for Egypt’s mediation efforts and acknowledged El-Sisi’s role in attempting to de-escalate tensions in the region.

The Iranian president said Tehran had taken part in multiple rounds of negotiations concerning its nuclear program and reaffirmed Iran’s stated commitment to maintaining fraternal relations and good neighbourliness with Arab states.

Both leaders also discussed possible pathways to reduce tensions and prevent the conflict from expanding further across the region.

President El-Sisi emphasized the importance of respecting international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter, including respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states and the need to avoid interference in the internal affairs of other countries.

Egypt has positioned itself in recent weeks as a potential mediator amid the escalating confrontation involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, warning that continued military escalation risks triggering a wider regional war with severe political and economic consequences.
