Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Expatriates Dr. Badr Abdelatty met with International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Grossi at the agency’s headquarters on Thursday, July 16. The high-stakes diplomatic encounter in Vienna was organized to review the ongoing strategic expansion of Egypt’s peaceful domestic nuclear program.

Abdelatty expressed deep national appreciation for the continuous technical coordination between Cairo and the global nuclear watchdog. He highlighted Grossi’s recent personal participation in installing the reactor pressure vessel for the second nuclear unit at the massive El-Dabaa power plant as a strong testament to their deepening bilateral partnership.

The Egyptian foreign minister highly commended the specialized technical assistance provided by the agency to reinforce the country’s sovereign atomic infrastructure. This extensive international cooperation serves as an absolute cornerstone for developing Egypt’s peaceful research reactors and upgrading specialized training frameworks for national scientists.

Grossi praised the rapid construction progress achieved at the El-Dabaa facility, characterizing it as one of the most prominent peaceful nuclear energy developments on the African continent. The agency pledged to maintain its institutional support to help Egypt safely expand its domestic engineering capabilities and technical safety standards across various atomic fields.

Cairo Demands Diplomatic Conflict Resolution to Protect Volatile Global Energy Corridors

The two leaders conducted extensive consultations regarding the severe military escalations currently disrupting the stability of the Middle East. Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s intense diplomatic communications with various regional and international powers aimed at containing tensions and avoiding a wider war.

The minister explicitly emphasized that political and diplomatic negotiations remain the only viable path to safely resolve complex geopolitical crises. He warned that unchecked regional conflict threatens to trigger catastrophic consequences for global shipping lanes, international supply chains, and volatile energy trading markets.
