Nine people were killed and eight others injured after a serious road collision on the Dabaa Axis near Ras El Hekma in Egypt’s Matrouh Governorate on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
The crash occurred in the Al-Deek area, south of Ras El Hekma, while vehicles were traveling toward Cairo. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of the collision, and ambulances transported the injured to Matrouh General Hospital and Ras El Hekma Hospital.
Initial information indicated that the crash involved several passenger vehicles, including two small buses and a car. The precise circumstances of the collision had not been publicly established at the time of reporting. Authorities were expected to investigate the cause, including the vehicles’ condition, road circumstances and the actions of the drivers involved.
The injured passengers suffered a range of serious injuries. Medical teams reported multiple fractures affecting the limbs and chest, head trauma, and suspected internal bleeding in the abdomen and brain. Some of the injured arrived at hospital in critical condition and required urgent medical treatment.
One of the victims died inside Matrouh General Hospital after suffering cardiac arrest. Medical staff carried out cardiopulmonary resuscitation in an effort to save him, but the attempts were unsuccessful. The bodies of the deceased were transferred to the mortuary at Matrouh General Hospital while the relevant authorities completed the required legal procedures.
The victims were reportedly between 25 and 50 years old, according to preliminary medical information. Officials had not immediately released the identities of those killed.
The eight injured survivors were between 20 and 38 years old. Their injuries included suspected fractures to the shoulders, hands, legs and ribs, as well as suspected internal bleeding, concussion and possible brain injuries.
Two of the injured people were treated at Ras El Hekma Hospital and later left after their condition stabilized. They were discharged after signing medical forms acknowledging the decision to leave. The remaining injured passengers continued to receive treatment at the two hospitals.
Emergency and medical authorities coordinated the response through Matrouh’s health directorate, including its critical and emergency care administration. Ambulance crews transported the casualties from the crash scene and provided emergency support as medical teams assessed the injured.
Local executive authorities also began clearing the wreckage and other debris from the road to restore normal traffic movement along the Dabaa Axis. Traffic was temporarily affected as emergency crews and officials worked at the scene.
The road is an important route connecting Egypt’s North Coast with Cairo and other parts of the country. It carries significant traffic, particularly during the summer season, when large numbers of travelers visit the coastal resorts around Matrouh and Ras El Hekma.
The crash is now subject to legal and administrative procedures. Investigators are expected to document the scene, examine the damaged vehicles, review witness accounts and determine whether any traffic violations, driver error, road conditions or mechanical failures contributed to the collision.
The death toll and injury figures reflect preliminary information released after the incident. Authorities may provide additional details as the investigation progresses and as doctors complete further assessments of the injured.
