Egypt Rafah crossing

Egypt Daily News – After Egypt rejected the Israeli proposal to manage the Rafah crossing in southern Gaza Strip, the Israeli website “Walla” revealed that Tel Aviv presented a plan to Egypt to reactivate the crossing.

According to the Israeli plan prepared by the Shin Bet, the crossing will be managed by Palestinian representatives and UN staff under Israeli supervision.

It will become a crossing point for the movement of people to and from the Gaza Strip, and it will also be used to transport fuel from Egypt to Gaza, according to a source familiar with the details of the plan for the Hebrew site.

The source added that all transit goods will be fully transferred to the Kerem Shalom crossing between Israel and the Gaza Strip, where Israel will inspect the trucks before they enter Gaza.

The Israeli plan includes integrating Palestinian representatives from Gaza into the operation of the Rafah crossing, particularly concerning border control and customs.

The names of the Palestinian representatives will also be transferred in advance from Egypt to Israel for the purpose of security background checks, and Israel will be able to exclude the names that are transferred to it.

According to the Israeli plan, UN staff will also be stationed at the crossing to oversee activities there and act as a buffer between Palestinian representatives and the Israeli army forces that will leave the crossing, providing only perimeter security to prevent attacks.

Walla website mentioned that as a “surprise display,” the Israeli army forces stationed outside the Rafah crossing will serve as an additional monitoring circle to ensure that there are no Hamas militants among those leaving or entering Gaza.
