Madbouly visits Zohr

Egypt Daily News – Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly visited the Zohr field, about 200 kilometers north of Port Said, on Saturday, following the arrival of the Saipem 10000 drilling rig, marking the resumption of drilling work at the site and its reactivation.

The Prime Minister had previously stated that production from the Zohr field is expected to return to normal levels before mid-2025, which will help Egypt reduce its import bill and thus return to production and export opportunities, according to a statement from the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources had issued a statement regarding the arrival of the drilling ship “Saipem 10000” to Egyptian waters to start working at the Zohr natural gas field site north of Port Said in drilling new wells using modern technology in deep water in the field’s concession area, as these activities aim to accelerate the addition of new quantities to production as soon as the drilling work is completed.

The Ministry of Petroleum added that these efforts come in line with the resumption of the field development plans that were agreed upon between the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and Eni, the Italian operator of the field, and the start of drilling new wells during the first three months of 2025, which contributes to enhancing natural gas production rates from the Zohr field.
