Egypt Daily News – Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that a potential meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Donald Trump could take place before the end of February.

This was mentioned in a statement to journalists in Moscow on Wednesday regarding the talks between Russian and American delegations, which were hosted in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday.

Peskov noted that the discussions aimed to improve relations between Russia and the United States and to create the necessary conditions for that.

He pointed out that both sides demonstrated political will to enhance relations, but there is still much work to be done, according to Turkey’s Anadolu Agency. He added that it is too early to talk about the results of the talks, emphasizing that the key issue is reviving and re-establishing relations between the two countries.

Peskov also stated that Putin has been briefed on the consultation outcomes and that Moscow will appoint its representative for negotiations on resolving the Ukraine crisis after Washington takes a similar step. The Kremlin spokesperson mentioned that no decision was made during the meeting regarding the possibility of holding presidential elections in Ukraine.

Regarding a potential meeting between Putin and Trump, Peskov said that the foreign ministries of both countries would be responsible for preparations. He added, “A meeting may or may not take place by the end of this month (February),” without providing further details.

On Sunday, Trump stated that he might meet with Putin “very soon,” explaining that they want to stop the war between Russia and Ukraine. On Tuesday, American and Russian delegations concluded their talks in Riyadh, which aimed to improve their strained relations since the Ukraine war.

The Russian delegation in Riyadh included Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Kremlin foreign policy advisor Yuri Ushakov, and the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, Kirill Dmitriev. Meanwhile, the American delegation included Secretary of State Marco Rubio, White House National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Whitcoff.

Since February 24, 2022, Russia has been conducting a military operation against neighboring Ukraine, demanding that Kyiv renounce joining Western military alliances—a condition Ukraine views as interference in its internal affairs.
