Egypt Daily News – The National Institute for Astronomical Research announced that Egypt experienced a 4.1-magnitude earthquake on Thursday, located 131 kilometers north of Sharm El-Sheikh.
The institute added that residents felt the tremor, but no reports of casualties or property damage have been received so far.
Over the past year, Egypt has recorded several earthquakes, though they were generally of weak to moderate intensity and did not cause significant damage.
In December 2024, a 4.86-magnitude earthquake was detected north of Damietta, with no reports of major damage.
In August 2024, a tremor was felt by Cairo residents. The National Research Institute stated that it was relatively strong for inhabitants but did not specify its exact magnitude in public reports. No losses were reported.
Egypt is not located within a major earthquake belt, but it does experience mild to moderate seismic activity, particularly in areas such as the Gulf of Suez and South Sinai, due to its geological position near tectonic plate boundaries.
These tremors are regularly monitored by the National Seismological Institute and typically do not result in significant loss of life or property.
