The White House has released the results of President Donald Trump’s latest medical examination, with doctors concluding that the 79-year-old remains in excellent health and fully capable of carrying out the duties of the presidency.

The medical summary, issued late Friday by White House physician Captain Sean P. Barbabella, followed days of speculation after Trump underwent a comprehensive physical examination at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center earlier this week.

According to the report, Trump demonstrated strong cardiovascular, pulmonary and neurological health, while maintaining excellent cognitive and physical performance despite the demands of the presidency.

“President Trump remains in excellent health, demonstrating strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and overall physical function,” Barbabella wrote in the assessment. He added that the president remains fully fit to serve as commander-in-chief and head of state.

Trump had hinted at a positive outcome shortly after completing the examination, posting on Truth Social that all results were “perfect” and thanking the medical staff at Walter Reed.

The report did, however, note that the president has gained approximately 17 pounds since his previous physical examination in April 2025. Physicians advised preventive measures including dietary improvements, increased physical activity, continued weight management efforts and the use of a low-dose aspirin regimen.

The release comes as Trump approaches his 80th birthday and amid renewed public discussion regarding the health of aging political leaders in the United States.

Questions surrounding presidential fitness have intensified in recent months following ongoing scrutiny of former President Joe Biden’s health during the latter stages of his administration and election campaign. Biden’s inner circle has faced criticism from opponents who claim concerns about his physical condition were downplayed while he was in office, allegations that his aides and medical team have rejected.

Trump has also faced growing attention over visible bruising on his hands and occasional swelling in his ankles. White House officials have attributed the bruising to frequent handshakes combined with the president’s daily aspirin use, while doctors previously diagnosed the ankle swelling as chronic venous insufficiency, a common circulatory condition.

The latest examination reaffirmed earlier assessments from Barbabella, who has repeatedly described Trump’s overall health as excellent during his second term.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. recently praised the president’s physical condition, citing comments made by television personality and physician Mehmet Oz regarding Trump’s reportedly high testosterone levels for his age.

Medical transparency among U.S. presidents remains largely voluntary, with no legal requirement compelling presidents to publicly disclose detailed health records. As a result, presidential medical reports often attract significant public scrutiny and political debate.

Trump’s health became a major campaign issue during the 2024 election cycle, though concerns about his age were often overshadowed by questions surrounding Biden’s fitness for office. More recently, however, public opinion surveys have suggested a decline in confidence regarding Trump’s physical and mental stamina.

A Washington Post/ABC News/Ipsos poll conducted earlier this year found that 40 percent of Americans believed Trump possessed the mental sharpness necessary to serve as president, while 44 percent said he remained physically fit for the role.

Despite those concerns, Trump’s latest medical report emphasized that he continues to perform at a high level both cognitively and physically. The assessment also referenced his perfect score of 30 out of 30 on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, a screening test commonly used to evaluate memory and cognitive function.

With the White House releasing the full medical summary, officials hope to put lingering speculation about the president’s health to rest as Trump enters the latter half of his second term.
