Egypt Daily News – Saudi Arabia and the World Health Organization have condemned the attacks targeting displacement camps near the city of El Fasher in Sudan, specifically in the Zamzam and Abu Shouk areas, which resulted in more than 100 civilians and 9 aid workers killed.
In a statement, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Kingdom’s rejection of these grave violations of international law and international humanitarian law. The statement emphasized the urgent need to protect humanitarian and aid workers and to immediately stop targeting civilians.
The ministry also highlighted the importance of adhering to the Jeddah Declaration signed on May 11, 2023, which called for the protection of civilians in Sudan. It urged all parties to respect international agreements and ensure the safety of displaced people and humanitarian workers.
Meanwhile, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said on Sunday that he was “horrified” by reports of the killing of around 100 civilians, along with 9 members of an international relief organization, in attacks reportedly carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the Zamzam and Abu Shouk camps in western Sudan.
The Sudanese Ministry of Health announced that the RSF had targeted Um Kadada Hospital and the Zamzam displacement camp, executing five medical personnel, as well as two drivers from the international relief organization and two other humanitarian workers at the center.
