Egypt Daily News – French President Emmanuel Macron has disclosed that Russian President Vladimir Putin has rejected a joint proposal by the United States and European countries aimed at achieving a ceasefire in Ukraine. Speaking during a press conference, Macron stated, “We presented a serious and coordinated proposal for a ceasefire, supported by both the United States and key European nations. Unfortunately, President Putin rejected it outright.”
According to Macron, the proposal included a 30-day ceasefire, humanitarian corridors, and the initiation of broader peace talks. “It was a real opportunity to stop the bloodshed and open the door to diplomacy. But Russia made it clear—it does not want peace at this stage,” he added.
The French president expressed deep concern over the continued human cost of the war and emphasized that the international community must not give up on efforts to bring the conflict to an end. “This rejection should not discourage us,” Macron said. “On the contrary, it strengthens our resolve to stand with Ukraine and to pursue every possible avenue for peace.”
The revelation adds new tension to the fragile diplomatic efforts underway, including the recent Istanbul talks between Russian and Ukrainian delegations, which were mediated by Turkey. While those talks resulted in a limited agreement on prisoner exchange, no breakthrough on a ceasefire was achieved.
Macron’s comments underscore the growing frustration among Western leaders over Russia’s stance, and could signal a shift toward increased pressure on Moscow both diplomatically and economically in the coming weeks.
