Egypt Daily News – A large number of Alexandria residents felt a strong earthquake in the early hours of Tuesday, causing widespread fear and panic. The tremor occurred at exactly 2:17 a.m., especially alarming as it came after a wave of severe weather that had struck the city at the same time the previous Saturday.

Reactions following the quake varied. Ahmed Morsi, an employee living in the Agamy district in western Alexandria, said he felt a strong tremor at 2:15 a.m., which caused the furniture in his room to move. He stated that he was overwhelmed with fear and unable to react.

Ibrahim Gamal, a teacher living on the 11th floor in the Sidi Bishr area, explained that the entire building shook violently, “as if it turned into jelly.” He added that this quake felt different from previous ones and lasted longer, prompting him to call his family and friends to check on their safety.

Shaimaa Shaaban, a resident of Manshiyya in central Alexandria, said she was watching TV when everything in the room began shaking violently and for a long time. She and her children were terrified, especially following the recent storm that had hit the city early Saturday.

Youssef El-Gammal, also from Manshiyya, said he was on a phone call when the couch suddenly moved in a frightening way. He initially thought there was a structural problem or a possible building collapse. However, he soon realized from social media that many others had experienced the same event. He expressed concern over the risk such tremors pose to the old buildings in the area.

Ahmed Kamel in Cairo woke up to his bed shaking and the chandelier rocking hard. He thought the building would collapse.

The National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics announced in a statement that its seismic network recorded an earthquake on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, located 500 kilometers north of Arish.

Dr. Taha Rabah, the institute’s director, stated that the earthquake measured 5.8 on the Richter scale. He noted that while some people felt the tremor, there were no reports of injuries.
