Egypt Daily News – The Sudanese Ministry of Health announced on Thursday the continued rise in cholera cases, surpassing the 19,000 mark, including 566 deaths.
A statement issued by the Emergency Operations Center of the Ministry of Health clarified that “190 new cholera cases have been recorded, in addition to two deaths in three states: Kassala, River Nile, and Gedaref.”
The statement added that “the total number of infections reached 19,411 cases, including 566 deaths, distributed across 64 localities in 11 Sudanese states.”
For its part, the Ministry of Health in the River Nile State revealed a noticeable increase in cholera cases, reaching 4,561 cases, including 101 deaths.
The ministry’s statement confirmed the registration of 37 new cholera cases today, raising the cumulative number to 4,561 cases, including 101 deaths. Meanwhile, 69 patients are still receiving treatment in isolation centers, and 4,391 people have recovered.
The Emergency Operations Center of the Ministry of Health reported that the number of dengue fever cases has reached 773, including 3 deaths, distributed across 11 localities in 4 states of the country.
The statement indicated the registration of 80 new cases of dengue fever on Wednesday in the states of Khartoum and Kassala, including 43 cases in the Karari locality in Omdurman and 37 cases in the Kassala locality.
The ministry confirmed the continuation of interventions to combat cholera, including treating cases in isolation centers, as well as the ongoing implementation of interventions at the federal level and daily monitoring of treatment centers in the affected states.
Cholera has spread in Sudan since August 12, following the devastating floods and heavy rains that swept across large areas of the country.
