Egypt Daily News – Today, the coast of the city of El-Qusseir , south of the Red Sea, witnessed a cargo ship running aground at the coral reef areas. Tug boats were sent from Safaga to tow the ship away from the coral reef areas and evacuate the passengers.

The ship had 21 sailors and technicians on board, including 10 Indians, 4 Syrians, an Iraqi, and 4 Egyptians, and that the owner is of Iraqi nationality. The cause of the stranding was a technical failure in the engines.

Authorities had received a report that the cargo ship “VSG GLORY” which is 100 meters long and 19 meters wide, flying the flag of the Comoros Islands and coming from one of the Yemeni ports, heading to the Port of Port Tawfiq in Suez, got grounded in front of one of the tourist resorts in the city of Qusseir.

The Environmental Affairs Agency has been notified to determine whether or not there are damages to the coral reefs, and a technical committee of Red Sea natural reserves researchers from the Qusseir office is scheduled to move to the Al-Shahout site to investigate any damages to the reef..
