Egypt Daily News – The spokesman for the Secretary-General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Mark Rutte, said on Friday that the latter will hold a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council next Tuesday, after Russia used a new missile in Ukraine, in what is widely seen as a dangerous new escalation.

President Putin said that Russia launched a new medium-range ballistic missile at Ukraine, yesterday, Thursday, in response to Kiev’s use this week of American and British missiles capable of striking deep into Russia.

In a televised address, the Russian president warned that US air defense systems would not be able to stop the new missile, which he said was flying at Mach 10, and which is called “Oreshnik” – Russian for hazelnut tree.

Putin also added that this missile could also be used to attack any country allied with Ukraine whose missiles are being used to attack Russia.

In his first comment since US President Joe Biden gave Ukraine the green light this month to use American ATACMS to strike limited targets inside Russia, Putin continued, saying: “We believe that we have the right to use our weapons against the military installations of countries that allow the use of their weapons against our facilities.”
