Egypt on Thursday welcomed US President Donald Trump’s decision to cancel planned military strikes against Iran, urging Washington and Tehran to seize what Cairo described as a critical opportunity to end the conflict and restore stability to the region.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates, Egypt expressed relief over the de-escalation and called on both sides to use the current diplomatic opening to resolve outstanding disputes through dialogue rather than military action.
“The available opportunity should be seized to reach agreements on the various outstanding issues and create favorable conditions for ending the war and launching a new phase of regional stability,” the ministry said.
Cairo stressed that diplomacy remains the only viable path toward a lasting solution, adding that efforts should now focus on addressing remaining regional and international conflicts through peaceful means.
The statement came hours after Trump announced he had canceled military strikes that were expected to be carried out against Iran on Thursday evening, raising hopes that negotiations between Washington and Tehran could advance toward a broader agreement.
Egypt said it continues to play an active role in efforts aimed at reducing tensions across the region. The ministry noted that, under the directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Cairo is maintaining intensive contacts with regional and international partners to encourage dialogue and support initiatives that could lead to a negotiated settlement.
According to the statement, Egypt’s diplomatic efforts seek to achieve an agreement that takes into consideration the concerns and interests of all parties involved while preventing further escalation.
The ministry also emphasized the importance of safeguarding the security of Arab Gulf states, describing their stability as a central pillar of regional security. Egypt reiterated its longstanding position rejecting any threat to the sovereignty or territorial integrity of Gulf countries and warned against interference in their internal affairs.
“The security of the Gulf states is closely linked to Egypt’s national security,” the statement said, adding that stability in the Gulf region remains vital for broader regional and international security.
Cairo further expressed hope that progress toward ending the conflict with Iran would allow the international community to refocus attention on the humanitarian and security challenges facing Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.
Egypt said it hopes diplomatic momentum generated by a potential agreement between Washington and Tehran could help accelerate efforts toward implementing the next phase of President Trump’s peace initiative and contribute to broader regional de-escalation.
The statement reflects Egypt’s continued effort to position itself as a key mediator in regional crises at a time of heightened tensions across the Middle East and growing international concern over the risks of a wider conflict.
