Egypt Daily News – The Israeli army announced today (Wednesday) that seven of its soldiers, including an officer, were killed in battles in the southern Gaza Strip.
The army added in a statement that an eighth soldier was seriously injured on Tuesday in a separate incident in the south of the Strip.
Israeli media reported that the seven soldiers were in the city of Khan Younis when an explosive device planted in their vehicle detonated, causing the vehicle to catch fire, according to Reuters.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, which is run by Hamas, subsequent Israeli attacks on Gaza have killed around 56,000 Palestinians, displaced nearly the entire population of the Strip, and triggered a hunger crisis.
According to army figures, 19 Israeli soldiers have been killed since the beginning of June during combat operations in the Strip.
