Egypt Daily News – Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly announced that the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum has been postponed to the last quarter of the year.

He explained that the decision was influenced by current regional developments and escalating tensions, noting that the previously scheduled opening date of July 3 has been delayed due to these circumstances. The aim, he said, is to ensure the event takes place in the best possible form and with the widest international participation.

Madbouly also addressed the energy situation in Egypt, noting that the country’s gas reserves are currently double what they were last year. He urged citizens to be mindful of electricity consumption, stating, “We are all in the same boat, and I call on everyone to be cautious with their electricity usage.” He affirmed the government’s commitment to avoiding power cuts during the summer.

He pointed out that last year, Egypt had only one floating regasification unit (FSRU), but this year, a plan was implemented to increase that number to three. Currently, three FSRUs are operational in Egypt to handle increased electricity demand and improve the capabilities of power stations.

The Prime Minister reiterated Egypt’s clear stance in condemning Israeli military operations against Iran and expressed concern that the bilateral conflict could spill over into the wider region.

During his visit to Beheira Governorate, Madbouly inspected projects under the presidential initiative “Decent Life” and reviewed medical convoys and services offered to citizens. He stressed that “Decent Life” remains the most important national project underway.

In televised remarks following his tour, Madbouly also highlighted several private sector projects, reaffirming the government’s support and encouragement for private investment.

Cabinet spokesperson Counselor Mohamed El-Homsany stated that the postponement of the museum opening is a government decision and is expected to be well-received by the public. He emphasized that preparations for the event were nearly complete, but current regional conditions made it more appropriate to delay the ceremony.

He clarified that the rescheduled date for the opening will be announced in the last quarter of this year. The event is planned to serve as a major promotional opportunity, positioning the Grand Egyptian Museum prominently on the global tourism map. He stressed that the postponement does not reflect any threat or instability within Egypt.
