President El-Sisi’s Speech at Joint Press Conference with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud

“In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful”

My brother, Your Excellency, President Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud,

Federal Republic of Somalia,

It gives me pleasure to welcome you as a dear guest in your second home, Egypt. I wish to express my esteem and appreciation for the growing pace in high-level visits between our two countries. This stands as a testament to the profound and special characteristics of the historical relations and fraternal bonds that bind our nations and peoples. This was demonstrably embodied in the strategic partnership declared during your visit to Cairo in January 2025.

This momentum demonstrates our shared commitment to further elevating our bilateral relations and fostering coordination in order to reinforce security and stability in the Horn of Africa region as well as our keenness on ensuring that the Egyptian national security remains inviolable.

Your Excellency’s visit today serves as an important platform for me to reiterate Egypt’s unshakable position in support of the unity and territorial integrity of the brotherly nation of Somalia. We also affirm our categorical, unequivocal rejection of any measures that infringe upon this unity, including the recognition of the independence of any part of its territory. Such actions constitute a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter and the principles of international law, and set a dangerous precedent compromising the stability of the entire Horn of Africa.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Talks with His Excellency, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, today focused on a multitude of bilateral cooperation files, and explored means to forge closer collaboration across various spheres, primarily economic cooperation, trade, and leveraging the seamless air and maritime connectivity between our countries, thus opening up new prospects that serve our mutual developmental goals.

Egypt also places huge importance on cooperation with the brothers in Somalia in the medical field. Therefore, we intend to dispatch a Egyptian medical mission to Somalia in the near future, encompassing various medical specialties.

We also deliberated on strengthening cooperation in the fields of training and capacity-building through The Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development, in addition to military and security cooperation. In this regard, Egypt reaffirms its readiness to share its expertise in counter-terrorism with the brotherly nation of Somalia, guided by the firm belief that confronting this scourge necessitates robust national institutions, trained cadres, and a comprehensive approach, contributing to the establishment of a conducive environment for achieving the aspirations of the Somali people toward development and prosperity.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Our discussions also tackled Egypt’s upcoming participation in the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia. I have assured His Excellency the President that Egypt is committed to proceeding with the deployment of its forces as part of the mission, grounded in its commitment to the African continent and its keenness on fostering security and stability throughout all regions of brotherly Somalia.

Moreover, we discussed current regional developments and agreed on the vital need to strengthen joint coordination to address the challenges facing the Horn of Africa region so as to promote security, stability, and prosperity.

We reiterated that the responsibility for securing the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden rests exclusively with their littoral states. In this context, we discussed the special role entrusted to our two countries, given their unique locations at the southern and northern gateways of the Red Sea.

In conclusion, allow me, my brother, Your Excellency the President, to emphasize that Egypt will always remain a sincere partner and a steadfast supporter of Somalia. We will further our efforts to bolster the security and stability of the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea.

Once again, I welcome you, Your Excellency, as a dear guest in Egypt, and invite you to deliver your speech.
