Liverpool manager Arne Slot has sparked concern over the future of Mohamed Salah after the Egyptian star was forced off injured during his side’s 3-1 victory against Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
Salah sustained the injury in the 55th minute at Anfield, appearing to clutch his hamstring before being substituted. He was replaced by Jeremie Frimpong, raising immediate concerns among Liverpool fans and staff.
Despite the setback, Liverpool FC secured a crucial 3-1 win, boosting their position back into the top four and strengthening their push for a Champions League spot.
Speaking after the match in comments reported by BBC, Slot admitted it was too early to determine the severity of Salah’s injury.
“It is too soon to make a diagnosis,” Slot said. “We all know Salah and how difficult it is for him to leave the pitch. Even if we were leading 6-0 and I took him off with two minutes left, he would still say he could have scored two more goals.”
The Dutch manager suggested the seriousness of the situation could be significant, noting that Salah’s decision to come off indicated something was wrong.
“The way he left the pitch suggests something,” Slot added. “We have to wait and see how bad it is.”
In a worrying remark, Slot hinted that the injury could potentially mark the end of Salah’s involvement with the team this season.
“The way he came off, maybe this is his last game with us,” he said. “That thought crossed his mind because we only have a few weeks left, but we hope he will play again.”
Slot concluded by summing up Liverpool’s campaign: “Another win, another injury, that has been the story of our season.”
Salah’s injury comes at a critical stage of the season, with Liverpool battling for a top-four finish and Champions League qualification. The extent of the damage is expected to be assessed in the coming days.
