Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi participated in the BRICS Heads of State and Government Summit held in the Indian capital, New Delhi.
Spokesman for the Presidency Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy stated that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the President at the Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre, the venue of the summit, where a commemorative photograph was taken of the two leaders.
President El-Sisi then participated in the closed session of the heads of delegation of member states, themed: “Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateral Action”.
During the session, the “New Delhi Declaration of BRICS Leaders” was adopted as the summit’s final document, alongside the issuance of a commemorative postage stamp marking the 20th anniversary of the proposal to establish the group.
The President delivered Egypt’s statement during the closed session.
Following the conclusion of the session, President El-Sisi will join the leaders of participating countries and heads of delegation in touring the exhibition entitled “Twenty Years Since the Launch of BRICS.” The President will also participate in the tree-planting event organized by the Indian BRICS presidency, prior to the taking of the official group photograph of the heads of state, government, and delegation leaders participating in the summit.

At the outset, I would like to emphasize the importance of our meeting today, which offers us an opportunity to exchange views on ways to enhance joint action and translate it into practical and operational tools that address the developmental and economic challenges facing our nations—at a time when the world is witnessing interconnected crises whose repercussions extend to security, energy, trade, and supply chains.
In this context, the BRICS group acquires special importance as a framework uniting key nations of the Global South, capable of playing a greater role in promoting South-South cooperation to confront current challenges.
On this occasion, I express Egypt’s appreciation for the tireless efforts exerted by India’s presidency of the BRICS group to translate the presidency’s priorities into concrete projects and practical activities across various tracks of cooperation.
Your Excellencies,
The ongoing developments in the Middle East, and their negative impacts on the global economy, trade flows, energy, and supply chains, underscore the close link between security and development.
Egypt—by virtue of its strategic position and pivotal role in global trade—is fully aware of the importance of safeguarding the stability and freedom of international navigation.
Accordingly, we must continue to build upon the achievements made within the BRICS framework and leverage the capabilities of our nations to establish specific projects and programs that support the Sustainable Development Goals, diversify sources of growth, enhance productivity, and bridge developmental and technological gaps.
In this framework, and in light of the growing challenges posed by debt and constrained fiscal space, Egypt appreciates the efforts witnessed under the BRICS economic and financial cooperation agenda to reform the international financial architecture and develop innovative, concessional financing instruments—as well as consolidating the role of the New Development Bank and adopting its strategy for the 2027–2031 period.
We hope that all these efforts will contribute to enhancing the responsiveness to the financing needs of member states.
Heads of State and Government,
Enhancing food, water, and energy security acquires special importance in light of the rising food and energy costs and supply chain disruptions faced by developing nations—underscoring the importance of adopting an integrated approach that takes into account their close interconnection.
In this context, we appreciate the significant progress in the agriculture and environment cooperation track in the areas of food security, sustainable agriculture, and sustainable water resources management.
I would like to point out in this regard that Egypt continues to work toward developing a grain and logistics hub to support food security and bolster its position as a regional hub for trade and logistics.
In parallel, we emphasize the importance of strengthening cooperation in the field of climate change, facilitating developing countries’ access to climate finance, and supporting a just and realistic transition toward low-emission economies, while considering differing circumstances, burdens, and developmental needs.
Your Excellencies,
Egypt views BRICS as a promising opportunity and an effective framework for building practical partnerships and developing a more balanced international economic system that is better able to meet the aspirations of our nations and peoples.
Egypt reaffirms its readiness to continue contributing constructively by supporting joint projects, strengthening partnerships, and leveraging Egypt’s strategic location to support trade and investment and to connect Africa, Europe, and Asia.
As we look forward to the upcoming Chinese presidency of the BRICS group, we aim to build upon the progress achieved by the Indian presidency, continue advancing the group’s agenda, and further strengthen partnerships among its member states.
In conclusion, I affirm that Egypt looks forward to assuming the presidency of the BRICS group in the near future, along with its commitment to continue working closely with member states to advance cooperation across all fields and translate our capabilities and potential into tangible partnerships that support development and achieve mutual interests, toward building a more prosperous future for our peoples.

President El-Sisi Meets President of South Africa Ramaphosa on Sidelines of BRICS Summit
Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in the Indian capital, New Delhi.
Spokesman for the Presidency Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy said the meeting focused on ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Egypt and South Africa. President El-Sisi lauded the continuous progress in these relations, confirming that he looks forward to elevating ties to the level of a strategic partnership.
The President also noted the importance of the ongoing efforts to upgrade the Joint Committee to the level of a High Joint Committee, transforming it into a comprehensive organizational framework for advancing economic relations and boosting joint trade and investments, to be commensurate with the two countries’ capabilities and their leading roles at the African and international levels.
President El-Sisi also emphasized Egypt’s keenness on strengthening cooperation with South Africa in continental connectivity projects and the establishment of more efficient trade corridors between the north and south of the continent, thereby contributing to supporting economic integration among African countries and serving the interests of their brotherly peoples.
President of South Africa Ramaphosa expressed his gratitude for the President’s keenness on consulting and coordinating with South Africa. He emphasized his country’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Egypt across various domains, building upon the historical ties and joint frameworks uniting the two countries, primarily the African Union, the NEPAD agency, and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), in addition to their membership in the BRICS grouping.
President Ramaphosa also lauded the priorities outlined by President El-Sisi regarding connectivity projects and trade corridors between the north and south of the continent.
During their talks, the two Presidents stressed the vital need to strengthen efforts toward reinforcing security and stability and settling disputes through peaceful means. They affirmed that Egypt and South Africa bear a special responsibility in fostering joint African action and unifying African positions within international fora.
The meeting also addressed ongoing crises and conflicts across the African continent. President El-Sisi emphasized Egypt’s commitment to reinforcing the stability and sovereignty of all African nations, chief among them Sudan. The President reasserted that Sudan’s security, sovereignty, stability, and unity represent a red line that Egypt will not allow to be crossed.
For his part, President Ramaphosa affirmed his country’s keenness on maintaining coordination and consultations with Egypt, commending Egypt’s active role at both the African and international levels.
The talks also reviewed the latest developments in the Middle East. The two sides underscored that the Palestinian cause will remain the central issue, and that the establishment of an independent Palestinian State in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy is the guarantee for achieving enduring peace and stability in the region. Regarding the water issue, President El-Sisi and South Africa’s President Ramaphosa reiterated the vital necessity of respecting the rules of international law and working to ensure the rights of nations in a manner that preserves regional security and stability.
