The Presidency
Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of India, Narendra Modi, on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit, held in New Delhi, India.
The Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, stated that the Indian Prime Minister welcomed President El-Sisi and Egypt’s active participation in the summit. President El-Sisi, for his part, commended India’s successful BRICS presidency this year and its efforts to enhance cooperation and coordination among the member states in a manner that serves the interests of the Global South and supports multilateral international action.
Talks addressed ways to further develop Egyptian-Indian relations and build on the growing momentum witnessed since the elevation of bilateral ties to the level of a strategic partnership in 2023. President El-Sisi underscored the importance of further strengthening this partnership, including increasing bilateral trade to $12 billion and boosting Indian investments in Egypt, particularly in the manufacturing, technology, clean energy, and automotive sectors.
President El-Sisi also highlighted Egypt’s competitive advantages, foremost among them its strategic location, qualified human resouces, and extensive network of free trade agreements, in addition to the incentives offered by the Suez Canal Economic Zone and other industrial zones.
The Indian Prime Minister affirmed his country’s keenness to continue developing bilateral relations across various fields, praising Egypt’s pivotal role in the region and its significant economic and human potential. He also stressed that his government encourages Indian companies to increase their investments in Egypt and explore available opportunities, and stressed the importance of maximizing the role of the business communities in both countries and strengthening ties between them in support of joint projects and the transfer of expertise and technology.
The two sides discussed opportunities for cooperation in new and renewable energy, green hydrogen, pharmaceuticals, and information technology, thereby opening new prospects for the private sectors in both countries.
President El-Sisi and Prime Minister Modi exchanged views on regional and international developments, foremost the Palestinian issue. President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s firm position that supports resolving crises through peaceful means and negotiation, prioritizing diplomatic solutions, respecting international law , as well as the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of states, and putting an end to escalation and the use of force.
