EgyptAir has entered into a long-term commercial partnership with FC Barcelona, becoming the Spanish club’s exclusive airline partner through the 2028–2029 football season.
The agreement gives Egypt’s national carrier a prominent position within one of the world’s most recognizable sports brands. It covers FC Barcelona’s men’s football team as well as its basketball and handball sections, providing EgyptAir with a broad platform to promote its brand to audiences across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and other international markets.
As part of the partnership, EgyptAir will receive global marketing and promotional rights connected to the club. The airline’s branding will also appear on the front of the official match jerseys worn by Barcelona’s handball team, giving the company direct visibility during domestic and international competitions.
The deal is designed to combine the reach of global air travel with the worldwide appeal of professional sport. FC Barcelona has one of the largest international fanbases in football, while EgyptAir operates routes linking Egypt with numerous destinations across Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. The partnership could allow both organizations to strengthen their connections with travelers and supporters in key markets.
For EgyptAir, the agreement represents a major step in its efforts to raise international awareness and reinforce its position as a global aviation brand. The company has been seeking to use high-profile partnerships to present itself not only as Egypt’s flag carrier but also as a competitive airline with a broader international identity.
Captain Ahmed Adel, chairman of EgyptAir Holding Company, described the agreement as an important milestone for the airline. He said the partnership brings together EgyptAir’s 95-year history in aviation and Barcelona’s international reputation in sport.
The timing of the agreement gives the airline an opportunity to link its legacy with the club’s current profile. Barcelona has continued to attract worldwide attention through its football, basketball and handball teams, while its commercial operations have expanded beyond Spain into new international markets.
Captain Mohamed Elyan, chairman of EgyptAir Airlines, said the agreement should not be viewed simply as a conventional sponsorship. He presented the collaboration as a relationship based on shared principles, including high performance, dedication and teamwork.
Those themes are central to both aviation and professional sport. Airlines compete on reliability, service quality, operational efficiency and customer trust, while elite sports organizations depend on discipline, coordination and consistent performance. EgyptAir intends to use that common ground in its marketing campaigns during the partnership period.
The airline’s logo placement on Barcelona’s handball shirts will be one of the most visible elements of the agreement. Although football remains the club’s best-known sport, Barcelona’s basketball and handball teams have significant followings, particularly in European competitions. The arrangement therefore gives EgyptAir access to audiences beyond football and may help the carrier reach fans interested in multiple sports.
FC Barcelona officials also welcomed the partnership. Marc Broix, the club’s global sponsorship director, said cooperation with Egypt’s national airline was a logical development as Barcelona continued to expand its international presence.
The club has increasingly used commercial partnerships to build relationships with companies in different industries and regions. An association with EgyptAir provides Barcelona with a connection to Egypt’s travel market and to a carrier serving as a link between Africa, Europe and the Middle East.
The partnership may also support tourism and business travel between Egypt and Spain. Barcelona is one of Europe’s most visited cities, while Egypt remains a major destination for cultural, beach and historical tourism. The visibility generated by the agreement could encourage greater awareness of both destinations among travelers and sports fans.
For EgyptAir, associating its name with FC Barcelona could strengthen its appeal among younger passengers and international travelers who closely follow global sports. Sponsorship campaigns linked to the club may include digital content, fan engagement initiatives, hospitality programs and joint promotional activities.
The agreement also gives EgyptAir an opportunity to distinguish itself in a highly competitive airline industry. Carriers around the world use sports sponsorships to build emotional connections with customers and to increase recognition in markets where traditional advertising may have a more limited impact.
The partnership will remain in effect until the conclusion of the 2028–2029 season. During that period, EgyptAir will be able to use its association with FC Barcelona across a range of international communications and marketing activities.
The deal marks another step in the airline’s efforts to modernize its global image while drawing on its long history as Egypt’s national carrier. By combining its aviation heritage with one of the most powerful names in international sport, EgyptAir is seeking to strengthen its visibility and position itself more prominently in the global travel market.
