Egypt Daily News – Arab Defense Website November 26, 2024: French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot confirmed in an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) on November 23, 2024 that Ukraine has the right to use SCALP-EG missiles.

Ukraine displayed a Su-class bomber -24 armed with long-range SCALP-EG/Storm Shadow cruise missiles supplied by France to strike targets inside Russian territory as part of the defense of Self.

However, Jean-Noel Barrot declined to confirm whether these French weapons were used in such operations. His comments came after the first confirmed attacks using US Scalp-EG/Storm Shadow cruise missiles and ATAMs on Russian territory.

The cruise missiles supplied by France and the United Kingdom were launched using specially modified Soviet-era Su-24 “Vincer” bomber/attack aircraft.

The modifications include updating the flight and fire control systems and the communication interface between the missile and the aircraft, thus ensuring full compatibility with the SCALP-EG/Storm Shadow guidance and targeting system.

The missile is guided by a combination of GPS, inertial navigation and terrain tracking radar, ensuring accurate targeting, especially in the final phase of its flight.

In addition, the missile’s low radar cross-section gives it a stealthy appearance, enhancing its ability to penetrate airspace heavily protected by air defense radar and missile systems.

With a range of more than 250 kilometers, the SCALP-EG/Storm Shadow missile can destroy important Russian military facilities, including ammunition depots and logistics centers far behind the front lines.
